Membership

As MAPECE is formed to enable early childhood educators to come together to promote quality early child care and education through properly trained and professional childcare providers and preschools teachers, the Association is to open to early childhood educators who have the required level of education and professional training and education. However, the Association also recognizes that at this stage of development in early child care and education in Malaysia there are a large group of childcare providers and preschools who do not have the level of education and training required but who are keen to become professional early childhood educators. MAPECE has the category, Associate Members, to cater for this group of early childhood educators,

The categories of membership in MAPECE as stated in Section “5. Membership” of its Constitution are:

(1) Membership shall be opened to all citizens of Malaysia and non-citizens working or studying in Malaysia, provided they satisfy the criteria stated in 5(1)(a), 5(1)(b), 5(1)(c) and are not younger than 18 years of age.

a) Ordinary Membership

Any individual is eligible for ordinary membership if he/she:

(i)  is an authority in early childhood care and/or education as evidenced by significant contribution to early childhood care/education or research in child development, early childhood care/education;

(ii) has a bachelor degree, master or doctorate in early childhood education;

(iii) has a diploma in early childhood education (6-semester diploma) accredited by the National Accreditation Board or recognized by the Department of Public Service, Malaysia

Ordinary members have the right to vote and hold office as a member of the Executive Committee.

b)  Corporate Membership

(i) Any registered childcare centre, nursery and kindergarten is eligible for corporate membership if the principal or senior staff has the qualification as stated in 1(a)(i) or 1(a)(ii).

(ii) The corporate body shall be represented by any one member of its staff who has the qualification as stated in 1(a)(i) or 1(a)(ii).

(iii) The representative of the corporate body can vote but cannot hold office as a member of the Executive Committee.

c) Associate Membership

Any individual is eligible for associate membership if he/she:

(i) has a certificate in early childhood education or its equivalent;

(ii) is a student of the Diploma or Bachelor in Early Childhood Education, provided he/she has a written approval from the Vice-Chancellor of his/her university/college

(iii) is a childcare provider or teacher in a registered childcare centre or preschool;

(iv) is a committed advocate of qualified early childhood educators and and/or quality early childhood care and education

Associate members cannot vote and cannot hold office as a member of the Executive Committee.
